Happy Holidays!
Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and with this past weekend's winter storms, it looks like we will be celebrating white Christmases right across Canada (even here in Vancouver). Though it is our last day in the office before the holidays, things have not slowed down at all and we are busy getting everything ready so that we can come back after the break and pick up where we left off. We can't believe that another year has gone by so quickly and the holiday season is here again!
Thanks to all our lovely authors for all your hard work this past year. Thanks also to everyone we worked with to make this year such a great success: publicists, sales reps, retailers, event coordinators, media, editors, designers, photographers... the list goes on and on.
Happy Holidays everyone and see you in 2009!

Just when you thought crème brûlée was the peak of decadence…
... the Dubys bring you a crème brûlée-inspired chocolate collection!
Whitecap recently released Crème Brûlée by Dominique and Cindy Duby, who are not only well-known cookbook authors but also the chefs and owners behind DC DUBY Wild Sweets, one of North America's finest artisan chocolatiers. Inspired by all the work they put into creating Crème Brûlée, the Dubys decided to launch a limited-release collection of crème-brûlée chocolates, featuring 12 unique variations of the recipes in the book. Boasting a "two-layer taste experience," the confection's bottom layer features the creamy taste and aroma of the "crème" portion of the dessert, finished off with the signature "brûlée"-like topping. The 12 different flavours include apple, blueberry, chai, and pumpkin.
All I can say is... YUM. The Dubys really know how to take something delicious and kick it up by about 14 notches!

'Tis the Season
Happy December, everyone. Hope you are all geared up for the festivities that the holiday season brings. Among our fall releases are some excellent resources to help you indulge-and of course they could also make excellent gifts.
Throwing your own party this season? Ryan Jennings and David Steele have all sorts of suggestions to help you plan the perfect evening in their new book, Entertaining with Booze. They even have a full party plan for New Year's Eve that is foolproof!
And why should the party end? If you are looking for the perfect appetizer to wow fellow partygoers, Shari Darling has an entire book full of them and even tells you how to match the appetizers with the perfect wine in Orgasmic Appetizers and Matching Wines. The recipes in this book are truly moan-worthy!
Trying to find the perfect, decadent dessert to top off an otherwise perfect dinner-party menu? Why not go with a classic crème brûlée? It's really not as intimidating as you think, and you are sure to make an impression-especially with the help of Dominique and Cindy Duby with their new book, Crème Brûlée.
That terrible sweet tooth does seem to get a bit out of control around the holidays. If you still aren't satisfied, what better way than with a rich, gooey brownie or brownie-inspired dessert from Lisa Slater's The Brownie Lover's Bible.

Babushka Grannies... or why we are excited for Fall 2009
We have some really keen authors coming down the line for Fall 2009. Pierre Lamielle is my favourite so far as he is already producing online content related to his new book!
Pierre is a Calgary-based author and chef who is currently writing, illustrating, designing, and testing recipes for his Fall 2009 book, Kitchen Scraps (ISBN: 1-55285-989-4; 978-1-55285-989-6). And as he pulls together content for this fun new book, he is writing a couple of blogs. Kitchen Scraps: The Making of a Cookbook is a journal he's keeping throughout the whole process, and Kitchen Scraps: The Blog gives you a look at some recipe and illustration samples. Both blogs are definitely worth a look and give you an idea of all the work that goes into the making of a cookbook. They're really funny and entertaining, too - check out his latest entry on meeting Kevin Bacon.
Let us know what you think about Pierre's blogs and post a comment. Remember - you could win a prize. - Nov20
Hello out there!
As some of you may have read in our newsletter, this blog wants some friends. One of my favourite things about the re-designed website is how it helps us interact with you all more. We really want to know what you all think about what's happening with Whitecap and our titles.
Did you attend an event where you saw one of our authors? Did you try a recipe from one of our books? Is there something you'd like to read more about on this blog? Do you have some hot gossip you want to share with us? We want to know! Just click on that "post a comment" button and type away. In a couple of weeks, we'll draw a name or two from all the fun comments we receive and give away a copy of one of our Fall 2008 books.
I can't wait to see what you all have to say! - Oct2
A Fresh Start
Welcome to our newly redesigned website! I can't tell you how excited we all are here at Whitecap Books about this new development. We are really looking forward to providing you with a fun and practical place to get information about our books, authors, and events. I hope that you will find it informative, helpful, and easy to use. I look forward to hearing any feedback you might have (feel free to post your comments here!).
We launched this website just in time for our very exciting fall 2008 season. We are now finished the labour intensive production stages of editing and designing the books and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the printed products in our warehouse. We have a lot of great titles this season that our team here is really proud of and we can't wait for you to be able to enjoy them too.
Please browse through our catalogue or take a look at the features on this site to see what we have coming up. As promotions ramp up, I will keep you updated on what's going on with our authors. Hopefully you can get out there to meet them while they are out promoting their new books over the next few months.
Thanks for all your support.
